Community-Based Disaster Preparedness

If a devastating earthquake struck Portland tomorrow, would you be prepared? The Northeast Coalition of Neighborhoods (NECN) is working on a project to improve our community's resilience in the event of a major disaster. The purpose of the project is to identify community assets that will support relief and recovery efforts after a disaster. This information will be shared and will help support our recovery, and also help emergency responders channel support from outside our area. This project will also help to connect informal groups, neighborhood associations, NET members, businesses, schools, and other organizations. They need our help with:

1) Suggesting organizations or groups in the area that have the capacity to provide shelter, food, health support, logistics support, or other basic needs in the event of a disaster.

2) Identifying key focal points  in our neighborhood that would be interested in being involved in this project (such as a current NET member or someone with an interest in disaster  preparedness). The time commitment is nominal and will consist of attending a fun social event/simulation twice per year.
